My friend Allen and I have been back and frothing about Lost for years now. At some point, we declared our vision for the final episode – he figured there would be a reasonably proper conclusion with answers. I told him to be prepared for a total forfeit of anything clear – I compared it to The Prisoner finale. What neither of us imagined is that we’d both be basically right, that “Lost” would manage to do a little of both and satisfy both our needs from the work – and that both of us would love it.
My friend Von Doviak recently wrote a piece that stated, simply, your Lost is not his Lost. Each viewer has his own Lost, his own way of viewing it, his own way of filling in the story, his own meanings assigned to it. I think this was entirely correct. (more…)
